For Sandgate Theatre Inc. (2016 - current)

Greg Jones joined the Sandgate Theatre company in January 2016 and was elected as Stage Manager and Marketing Officer at the AGM. Since then Greg has taken on duties as the sound and lighting technician for 'It's On, It's Off' and has returned to directing with 'Breakfast For One' (previously directed with the Arkadian Bilpin Performers in 2010), a one-act play as part of the 'Cafe One Acts' program in May, 2016. He also has taken up duties as publicist, publications designer and prompt for this production.

In the second-half of 2016 Greg became the website manager for Sandgate Theatre Inc, re-designing elements from the old site and bringing a fresh new look with vivid imagery and robust content honouring the more than sixty years of company operation.

In August 2016 due to casting issues late in the rehearsal stage Greg competently took on the role of the Australian Born Vietnamese character Chester Lee in Jonathan Biggins' social satire comedy 'Australia Day'. Greg also took on the dual roles of both Mr Mash and (young) Mr Grace in the November 2016 production of Jeremy Lloyd's stage version of the popular TV sitcom 'Are You Being Served?', as well as duties as Stage Manager.

In 2017 Greg has taken on Stage Management for the company's first production, 'Who's On First?', Publicity and Assistant Stage Management for 'Brigadoon', Stage Management for the 42nd annual one-act play festival 'Yarrageh', followed by Stage Management and Publicity for the major end of year production, 'Song Contest: The Almost Eurovision Experience'. He also produced a major fundraising event in October to promote support for Sandgate Theatre Inc from a concept which blends trivia and karaoke - titled 'Rocktober - A Rocky Horror Trivia & Karaoke Spooktacular'.

In 2018 Greg returned to Stage Management for the Sherlock Holmes inspired production of 'The Game's Afoot', Directed 'Post It's: Notes On A Marriage' as part of the Cafe One Acts production (May) and is continuing work with Sandgate Theatre Inc as they enter their 60th year of operation. Greg was elected as Vice-President for 2018.
In 2020 Greg played the role of Edward "Milly" Milson in the stage version of 'Keeping Up Appearances' and returned as Riff Raff in the Rocky Horror Trivia night at Sandgate Bowls Club in December 2021 (see video samplers below) .
In 2023 Greg returned to stage at Sandgate Town Hall in the role of two characters, being Frank Pickle and Cecil in 'The Vicar of Dibley 2: Love at the Vicarage' and then in 2024 he was elected as President of Sandgate Theatre as well as taking up another character role as Juror #7 in the courtroom drama '12 Angry Jurors' (May).

For Guys 'n Dolls Revue (2017 - 2018)

As King John in 'Robin Hood: Men In Tights' (2018)

Greg Jones joined the local theatre company Guys' n' Dolls Revue at Kallangur during October 2017, taking on a lead role in their January 2018 production of 'Robin The Hood' as the cruel dictator King John. With his keen interest in the creative process of developing evil villains Greg soon created another memorable character on the stage, adding to his growing list.

Greg took on the 'monstrous' roles of Director and 'Sideshowman' for 'Creepytown - The Musical' - an ambitious and extravagant musical production featuring an inspiring union between a human and a vampire whilst taking a peak into the world of werewolves, vampires, witches and zombies. Greg fulfilled this role until 24/08/18.

King John & Robin Hood got along after all! :)

For InsideOutside Theatre (2017)

Greg Jones joined the local InsideOutside Theatre Company during October 2017, taking on a small acting role as Disco King Jason De Luca in their travelling murder-mystery show, 'Murder On Record', playing at various venues such as local retirement villages and public restaurants over the last few months of 2017.

For Mousetrap Theatre (2016)

Greg Jones joined the Mousetrap Theatre in Redcliffe in May 2016 acting in Jeff Goode's production of 'Murder by Midnight', a twenty minute one-act play directed by Tanja Stanley and Sophie Even. This was Greg's return to the stage after almost three years absence. This production continued through the later months of 2016 in various festival runs with other theatre companies such as Act 1 Theatre, Beenleigh Theatre Company, King Street Players, Sandgate Theatre and the Brisbane Arts Theatre.

For The Arkadian Bilpin Performers (2007 - 2013)

Greg Jones joined the Arkadian Bilpin Performers in 2007 in the role of Sir Michael Anstruther in Dear Charles, a comedy by Alan Melville. He made his mark as a character actor in this play. Later that year he took on the unenviable role of Harry, an alcoholic philanderer in Alan Ayckbourn's Confusions. Ostensibly a despicable character, Greg's performance persuaded the audience to have pity and concern for Harry rather than despise him.
A series of strong characterisations followed in Greg's roles in: A Taste for Murder by Angela Lanyon and (Prince John) in The Lion in Winter by James Goldman (both plays in 2008); in 2009 he played Alfred Doolittle in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion (titled Eliza & the Professor in this production) and Richard Owen in Take Away the Lady, a murder mystery by Jimmy Chinn. 2010 saw Greg in the role of Commander Rogers in French Without Tears by Sir Terence Rattigan and in the 1-Act comedy Bang You're Dead by Paul Reakes. In this same production of three 1-Act comedies, Greg was director of Breakfast for One by David Foxton. In 2011, Greg played the hapless fiancé, John Watherstone in another Rattigan play, The Winslow Boy. In 2012, Greg took the leading role in Sherlock Holmes & the Case of the Jersey Lily by Katie Forgette; and in a dramatic presentation that year of Charles Dicken's Great Expectations adapted by Bathsheba Doran he played both the amiable blacksmith, Joe Gargery and the abusive Bentley Drummle in this epic story. Greg also was a Co-director of this production. His next role, in 2013, was as the taciturn butler and companion, Hawkins, in The Kingfisher by William Douglas-Home. The last play in the 2013 Season was Murder by Misadventure a murder-thriller by Edward Taylor with Greg cast in the leading role of Harold Kent. This was a demanding role commanding a vast amount of dialogue and in which Kent was never off stage. In all of the above plays Greg took on a huge variety of characters employing a wide range of acting skills with great success. His ability to create different characters is unsurpassed in the Company and he is often not recognised by audience members from one play to the next through the skillful use of makeup and other appearance changes.
Greg Jones has effectively worked in all aspects of theatre production in our Company encompassing Set design and construction, Sound and Lighting design and operation, Publications design and creation (including programs, posters and flyers), Publicity (including website design and social media), Photography and has been an office bearer on the Theatre Committee including President in 2013. Greg has proved to be an all-round Company member putting his hand to anything that is required for productions.
As an actor and an all-rounder, Greg is a valuable Company Member: committed, willing, accommodating, friendly and definitely an ensemble player. He has always provided great support to the Management Team. He has a strong and energetic presence on stage and is an instinctive, intelligent actor who is co-operative, reliable and easy to work with.
We commend Greg to any Theatre Company as a person with talent, ability and dedication with the capacity for success in diverse areas of theatre production.
Yours sincerely,
John Graham M.A., Dip. Lib, A.L.I.A (President 1998-2012)
